The perfect Hallowe'en challenge has been set in Worcester - a night in what is believed to be one of the most haunted pubs in Britain!

Childline West Midlands, the free helpline for local children and young people, has arranged the sponsored event at the Mug House, in Claines, to test the nerves of all wannabe Ghostbusters.

The pub is reputed to have more than its fair share of spirits behind the bar, including several ghostly sightings of what many believe to be soldiers from the Battle of Worcester in 1651.

"There is no doubt in my mind that the cellar of the pub is occupied by spirits but they seem quite a friendly bunch!" said Judy Allen, the pub's landlady.

"I'm delighted to be able to help stage this spooky

fund-raising night."

Every day more than 400 children in in the West Midlands call Childline, but lack of funds means that only around 180 are able to get through to a councillor.

"All the funds raised through this event will help Childline reach out to more local children in need of comfort, advice and protection," said Eric Kent, Childline fund-raiser.

"Everyone who takes part is sure to have an unforgettable experience and lots of stories to tell their friends."

The event will take place from Thursday, October 31, until Friday, November 1. Fortunately, there will be no "lock-in" and those who are too scared can leave at any time.

Anyone feeling brave enough to spend the night in the haunted cellar for Childline should contact Eric Kent on 0121 452 5678 or by e-mail at ekent@childline.
