A LEARNING disabilities nurse from a Worcester nursing home is set to appear before a professional conduct committee today charged with physically and verbally abusing a resident.
Hugh Tangye, aged 48, will face three allegations of roughly handling and physically and verbally abusing a Worcester Christian Nursing Home resident.
He is due to appear before the Nursing and Midwifery Council's professional conduct committee.
The London Road home hit the headlines two years ago when it emerged that the Topaz Unit had been the subject of a six-month investigation by police and social services, after a worker expressed concerns about "care practices" at the home.
Police also looked into a separate issue of treatment of residents, which resulted in the termination of a male nurse's services.
The home closed last year, with staff blaming the closure on "draconian" methods used by social services in dealing with issues.
