NEW students at University College Worcester will have the opportunity to meet their Student Union representatives at a special event.

Looking After No1 Day takes place at the St John's campus this Friday.

There will be displays and presentations by a number of organisations to make new students aware of what help and support is available during their time there.

Worcester MP Mike Foster is planning to drop in on the students when the event kicks off at 11am.

"For many students this will be the first time away from home for a prolonged period," said Leanne Crocker, vice-president of education and welfare at UCW Students' Union.

"It's important that they know where and who they can turn to for help and advice across a wide range of issues.

"While UCW is a very friendly and approachable place to study, you can feel a bit lost or lonely at times.

"This event will help students by introducing them to people and organisations that can be a part of their stay here at Worcester."

Among the organisations on hand to offer support and advice will be local GPs, UCW's Equal Opportunities Department and representatives from Worcester's Sexual Health Clinic.
