WARNDON'S outdated youth centre has been given an overhaul designed by the youngsters who will use it.

The centre's coffee bar area, kitchen and function room have been given a complete remake, and have so far proved popular with the youngsters.

"It was looking really outdated," said Jeremy Tansley, youth area worker for Warndon.

"The seating appeared like it was from the 60s and was looking a bit worn.

"The young people were involved on what they thought the area should look like."

The coffee area has new furniture and has been redecorated with new pictures on the walls.

The kitchen has been completely refitted and the function room has also been modernised. The centre was closed for around a month while the refurbishment was carried out.

"It has been a long time coming and we have been closed for a while now," added Mr Tansley.

"I haven't had any complaints about it. Nobody has said they don't like it."

Funding for the makeover came from Worcestershire County Council's youth service. The head of the service, Bridget Cooper, was on hand to cut the red tape at the official opening

"The designing has all been done by the young people," she said.

"The county council can't tell them what they are going to have, we need to work with them.

"We are trying to modernise all the city's youth premises and this is the first one."

Having been closed for a month, the centre will now resume its normal timetable of events with Boredom Breakers on Mondays and Fridays between 7pm and 9pm for 11 to 16-year-olds.

On Wednesdays and Thursdays the centre hosts the senior club nights for 13 to 19-year-olds between 7pm and 9.45pm.

Between noon and 3pm Worcester Action for Youth also provide a wide range of activities for young people.
