TINY the lop-eared rabbit looks the picture of health as she prepares to munch her way through a stick of celery with St Mary's Convent School sixth-former Louise Winer.

And the organisers of International Rabbit Day, due to take place on Saturday, September 28, want to make sure the dwarf bunny stays that way.

Carolina James, director of The Rabbit Charity, is warning Worcester pet-lovers that rabbits are one of the most popular, but least happy pets.

"This is partly due to the fact that many owners don't understand their needs," she said.

"Rabbits need a large living area, preferably in the house or a safe outdoor building.

"Hutches are too small and they don't protect rabbits from the elements and predators, such as foxes.

"They also need a big run for daytime exercise, plenty of fresh food, water, bedding and toys to keep them entertained."

The Rabbit Charity is running the Carrot Top Awards to find Worcestershire's top bunnies.

To enter, send a photo of your rabbit and the reasons why they deserve an award before Tuesday, October 15, to The Rabbit Charity, PO Box 23698, London N8 OWS, enclosing a stamped, addressed envelope. Winners will receive a bag full of Bunny Buys goodies.
