THE intimate setting of the studio at Kidderminster's Rose Theatre will provide audiences with a claustrophobic experience next week.

It will be transformed into a legendary theatrical agent's office for the first production of resident group The Nonentities' new season - Peggy For You.

The play, by Alan Plater - of Z Cars and Coronation Street fame - was described by a Nonentities spokeswoman as "a stylish study of a theatrical impressario".

Peggy Ramsay was the literary agent responsible for finding and representing a host of 20th century talent including the likes of Joe Orton, Samuel Beckett, Caryl Churchill and David Hare.

Nonentities artistic director Liz Cole said: "We were always going to do Peggy For You.

"It' superbly written, has a cracking part for a middle-aged actress and is all about theatrical history as well as being a strongly dramatic piece in its own right."

The play, which runs from Monday until Saturday, September 21, also serves as part one of an intriguing double bill, combined with an appearance by the playwright near Bromsgrove.

Alan Plater will be in the conference room at LG Harris and Co in Stoke Prior, presenting Drama - Who Needs It? as part of the Words 2002 season on Friday, September 27.

Mrs Cole added: "It's nice that the writer is visiting Worcestershire, too. It makes the theatre seem connected to a bigger arts scene which is good for everyone.

"And, of course, the timing means people can check out the play and then hear the writer in person."

Audiences are promised a claustrophobic, no holds-barred peek into the office of a "difficult lady, administrative disaster and theatrical legend".

The box office number at The Rose is 01562 743745, while inquiries about the other event can be made on 01905 774520.
