TWO people went where no couple had been before on Saturday when a church held its first ever wedding.

Margaret Hamilton and Barry Hannersley were married in the 100-year-old Areley Kings Methodist Church, Redstone Lane, Stourport, two years after the church first got a marriage licence.

The new Mrs Hannersley, 57, who attends the close-knit church virtually every Sunday, was thrilled with their big day. Margaret and Barry Hannersley, pictured outside Areley Kings Methodist Church.

"It went off swimmingly and everyone enjoyed themselves. The service was beautiful and everything just seemed to fall into place," she said.

"When the minister started the service he began to tell us it was the first wedding in the church and what a special occasion it was. I felt so special to be the first person to be married there."

She added: "Barry's been living here for 30 years and the church is just down the road. It's only a small place and they've done funerals there but never a wedding before."

The couple, of Callow Close, met six years ago after being introduced through a friend when Mrs Hannersley moved to Stourport from Wolverhampton.

"I've got many friends round here. I feel really at home," she said.
