AFTER losing out at the same stage 12 months ago, Evesham United will be keen to exorcise the memory of a horror show against Bridg-water when they make the long trek to Falmouth for Saturday's FA Cup first qualifying round tie.

A 4-1 home defeat at the hands of the Western League visitors was a huge blow financially and Phil Mullen's men will be doubly keen to put a smile on the face of chairman Jim Cockerton.

The Common Road chief has arranged an overnight stay tomorrow and he hopes a professional attitude off the pitch will lead to one on it.

"These games are never easy but we will give the players every chance to be in the right frame of mind for what is an important match," the chairman admitted.

"It's not easy money and we've got to go about it in a professional manner. It will mean just as much to them as it means to us ad we must be at the top of our game."

The winners will receive an additional £7,500 on top of the £1,000 already banked for winning the preliminary round tie and it represents a major windfall for all clubs.

"It works about at around half the money we take in gate receipts during a season," Cockerton revealed. "I expect us to go there and win but it's the FA Cup and there will be bigger upsets."

Falmouth are in the Carlsberg South Western League - that's three divisions beneath the Dr Martens League Western Division. And the Robins should be favourites book a place in the second qualifying round.

"I've witnessed some of the best football so far this season that I have seen in nine years at the club," the chairman added. "We've made a great start to the season and it would be nice if it continued on our travels this weekend."

Should Saturday's clash end in a draw the replay will take place at Common Road next Tuesday, kick-off 7.45pm.
