THE ever popular, Father and Son open competition, attracted over 120 competitors from 28 golf clubs around the area.

Evesham is the only club in the area to run this type of competition, with many returning every year, the Bevan family from Tewkesbury, boasting three generations.

The format was a Greensomes Stableford, playing off 7/16 of combined handicap.

The winners were Richard and Ashley Curnock, both Evesham members who carded a fantastic 44 points from runners-up Andrew and Richard Milner (Droitwich) 42 points.

Mike Oakley (Bidford), Ben Tattersall (Evesham) were third on a countback from Dennis and Steve Ridsdale (Evesham) 41. Alan and Darren Law (Evesham) 40 points finished fifth.

Longest drive on the third was Alan Cooper (Melton Mowbray), while nearest the pin on the 18th was Nick Webb (Evesham).

The club's A team proved too strong for Kidderminster, in their recent match at home, winning 4-1.

The winning pairs were Stuart Ridley and Dan Haines, Alan Askew and Brian Haines, Lloyd Stephens and Tom Walker, Rob Smith and Gavin Pugh.

The A team also had a good result, at home to The Worcestershire, halving the match 3-3.

Captain Jamie Bailey partnered by Tom Walker, Nick Wallis and John Williams, Rob Smith and Gavin Pugh all winning their games.

Twenty teams took part including visitors from 16 clubs but it was Evesham duo Ruth Masters and Lesley Morgan who teamed up with Margaret Wheatley and Pauline Laight to record an impressive score of 91 points at a Ladies Am-Am.
