September 13 1902

On Friday night, Mr Martin and afterwards Mr Williams, of the Wickliffe Preachers, addressed a large meeting in the Market Place. Before the crowd congregated in force the police had cleared a goodly space around the lamp in the centre of the Square, and no rushing tactics were attempted.A few rotten eggs and fruit in various stages of decay were thrown, but with such erratic aim that the preachers themselves escaped.

September 10 1927

As a result of the third annual show organised by the Vale of Evesham Asparagus Grower's Association, the officials this week have been able to hand to the Evesham Hospital authorities a cheque for £112 8s 6d for the extension fund. The experiment of holding the show at Evesham thus proved to be an outstanding success, and while congratulating the association officials on handing such a useful sum to the hospital, the growers are to be thanked for their excellent support.

September 13 1952

Evesham Market Square, where, a month ago, the townsfolk turned out in hundreds to welcome members of L'Esperance Drouaise, the French girl gymnasts who came to give a gymnastic and dancing display in conjunction with the recent carnival, will be the scene of a second and similar Anglo-French occasion on Friday of next week when Dreux Athletic Football Club arrive in the town for a week-end visit during which they will play a friendly match against Evesham United's Worcestershire Combination side.

Long queues formed in the streets of towns and villages in the Vale of Evesham this week, in scenes reminiscent of rationing and the war years, as people waited for their daily bread. Bakers toiled throughout the night trebling their normal output to meet the demand as the first week of the national bread strike began to bite into family meals. Pershore and District Scout Group had to cancel its pig roast because they could get no rolls.
