ASHTON-under-Hill Produce Show and Fete last Saturday was a real village effort and resulted in a surplus of about £600.
"Everybody pulling together made it a tremendous day and although staging the event on the playing fields, involving the hiring of marquees, makes it expensive to put on, I am pleased we made a surplus," said community council chairman Penny Scotland.
She added: "We were pleased with the entries in the various competitions, especially the children's classes which were very well supported."
Fancy dress competitors paraded through the village before the show was opened by the new vicar, the Rev Jan Bevan, and entertainment alongside the stalls and competitions included Belle de Vain Clog Dancers and Morris Men, Paws for Thought dog agility display, a falconry display and fairground organ.
Roger Umpleby won the award for most points in the produce section and Clare Bunn the domestic section.
