TOURISTS could be striding out on audio tours of Stourport if a grant application is successful.

The town centre forum, an umbrella organisation of groups including businesses, churches and councils, is bidding for £45,000 from regional development agency Advantage West Midlands for pedestrian signs and audio equipment.

The plan envisages visitors being guided around attractions such as the town centre, canal basins and riverside meadows while listening to recorded information.

"There is a town trail already - it just wants beefing up and being done professionally," said forum chairman Derek Fradgley.

"It's a new way of getting new people to the town."

Information would be available to download from the forum's website or from CDs for hire from businesses in the town, where personal stereos would also be on offer.
