A FIRE engulfed a bungalow, killing two dogs and leaving a woman suffering from smoke inhalation.

Marie Wall, in her 50s, was alone with her staffordshire bull terriers when she escaped the inferno at her detached wooden chalet at Stourport's Larford Estate Holiday Park just before 8pm on Saturday.

But she fell and cut her head as she ran back to try and save the dogs trapped in the detached building, which was completely destroyed.

Twenty-five firefighters from Kidderminster and Stourport dealt with the blaze, intensified by fireballs fuelled by five gas cylinders.

"The lady owner had been taken to a neighbour's bungalow. Neighbours saw her staggering around and took her inside," said leading firefighter Len Rees, of Stourport Fire Station, who was at the scene.

"The fire had really got a hold by the time we arrived. One of the neighbours saw the fire raging in the kitchen, but there are no suspicious circumstances at the moment. The cause of the fire is still being investigated."

Mrs Wall, a warden on the estate with her husband, was taken to Kidderminster Hospital by ambulance and treated for minor injuries.
