HOCKEY: Pakistan international Imran Yousaf has bolstered Stourport Hockey Club's squad for the coming National League Division One campaign.

Stourport are hoping for an improvement after narrowly avoiding relegation last season.

The addition of Yousaf, who has racked up more than 100 caps for one of the world's great hockey nations, should be crucial.

He is an internationally-renowned short-corner expert and aims to be among the league's top scorers.

Despite a few players leaving, Stourport have also added Andy Bennet from Harrogate and Joe Wilson from Birmingham University.

They begin with a warm-up game on Sunday against National League rivals Beeston, while the other town teams play Olton and West Warwickshire.

The seconds, thirds and fourths all play in Midlands Premier Divisions which start on September 27 and they hope to finish in the top three.

Club training sessions have been headed by England captain and ex-Stourport player Craig Parnham, while Stuart Speake has returned as first-team coach.

Meanwhile, Stourport are looking for new players for their badgers team which mixes experienced players with U-15s.

They have two teams playing each week against clubs like Cannock, Wolverhampton and Worcester.

Stourport normally play two adults and at least 11 juniors, including substitutes.

More details are available on 01562 752323 or by attending training on Wednesdays from 6pm until 7pm at The Kingsway, Stourport.
