ART GROUP: The Art Group held a highly successful exhibition last Saturday morning and the response from friends and well-wishers in the village was very gratifying indeed with donations together with sale of raffle tickets and refreshments raising well over £100. Many congratulations and admiring comments could be heard and at least four visitors expressed their intention of becoming members. The present leader of the group and the organiser of the occasion, Alan Davies, delightedly expressed his gratitude to everyone who had helped to make this such a worthwhile event, not only to the artists themselves (some of whom had been cajoled into demonstrating their skills to the visiting public) but also to those who had given raffle prizes, cakes for sale as refreshments etc, and, not least, time and enthusiasm.

VILLAGERS' SUPPER: The Villagers' Supper held on Friday evening last was another unqualified success with 60 plus people sitting down to an excellent meal which was then followed by an illustrated slide talk on the subject of the Mission Aviation Fellowship. This is a relatively unknown but vitally important charity started just after the Second World War by a couple of ex-RAF men who were seeking to do something worthwhile with their lives and who felt that God was calling them to use the skills they had learned during their time spent in and amongst aeroplanes. Alf Beard who gave the talk, together with his wife Doreen who accompanied him, have spent the last 10 years working as volunteers for the charity, touring a wide area, imparting information and raising money to provide planes, training and support for the organisation. The evening, sponsored by the Baptist church and St James' owed a great debt to the organising skills and hard work of Liz Nunn and Jenny Phillips who, together with their teams of helpers, had made the event possible. They are to be congratulated. The next Villagers' Supper will be in February; watch out for details nearer the time.

Two further events in the near future worth noting: Macmillan Coffee Morning, 10am to 12noon, on Friday, September 27 at 'Breslau' Leys Road, hosted by Sophie Dodds and Fran Webb. This is rapidly becoming an annual event at this address. Always raising substantial sums of money. Please do all you can to ensure that its success is repeated.

St James' Church Harvest Supper at 7-7.30pm on Saturday, October 5, another annual event from which proceeds always go to a worthwhile cause. To this end, there will be an auction sale after the supper. Tickets at £6.50 each can be obtained from Sue Coley on 870204 or any member of the Social Committee.
