ENGLAND youth international Steve Davies smashed 83 runs but Kidderminster lost to promotion-chasing Kenilworth Wardens in Birmingham League Division One.

The second-placed visitors won the penultimate game of the season easily by eight wickets to continue their surge towards the Premier Division.

KCC were asked to bat first and started poorly when Mark Mansell fell for three to leave the home side 13-1 by the sixth over.

Fellow opener Davies had luck on his side once or twice but Craig Wood had none, being stumped for 12 runs.

Mandeep Singh, playing his first game before returning to India, was also stumped by Goodwin off Kotak's bowling for 20.

KCC were reduced to 98-3 from 37 overs and then Chris Pyke quickly departed for a duck to a run-out.

But Davies, chasing his maiden league century, put on 45 runs in nine overs with Richard Bradford (24) before the wicketkeeper departed to a good catch for 83.

With KCC only having six overs to better their 144-5, skipper Sean Lloyd and debutant Gomez Vincent were both dismissed cheaply.

Marc Derrick batted well for 13 runs but their 166 runs gave Kenilworth an easy task.

Overseas player Kotak, who took 6-68 from 21 overs, also proved his worth with the bat.

Kenilworth lost a wicket in the second over when Singh (1-69) bowled Smyth for a duck but it took another 35 before they lost their second.

Kotak scored a comfortable 72 before he was caught by Davies off Mansell's bowling to make the score 121-2.

Opener Barr finished on 73 not out with Henderson 19 not out, while Vincent was unlucky not to claim a debut wicket when a catch was dropped in his one over.

KCC now have one game left at Harborne on Saturday but have no chance of getting away from the league's lower reaches.

KCC 166, Kenilworth 170-2.

The seconds fell well short of Old Hill's 179-7 in the Seconds Premier Division.

Old Hill 179-7, KCC 2nds 136-7.

KCC thirds rounded off their season in fine style with an excellent win at Cleobury in Worcestershire League Division Six.

The hosts, needing a win to secure third and promotion, were beaten by 65 runs after a superb effort from a young side.

Asked to bat first on a lively wicket, KCC made steady progress for 151 all out from 43 overs with Simon Trickett (29) and Andy Logan (24) top scoring.

In reply, all the bowlers performed well to skittle Cleobury out for 86, helped by excellent fielding and catching.

Lee Daniels confirmed his position as leading wicket-taker with 2-30 and Logan bowled with aggression for 3-27.

Tony Burkes used all of his vast experience to wrap up the innings with 4-20.

KCC 3rds 151, Cleobury Mortimer 86.
