COLWALL III defeated title challengers Worcester in convincing style on a perfect Ghost Meadow wicket to lift the league trophy. This is the club's first league title of any description for 20 years.
COLWALL III v WORCESTER III
Having won the toss and asked the visitors to bat first, who had to win for them to secure the top stop, they got off to a rapid start dismissing Breakwell to a simple catch to Bakewell off Keith Holland.
Worcester, looking to amass 200 plus in as few overs as possible and then hope to dismiss Colwall on a perfect batting track was always a tall order. 46 from skipper Tyrer and fine 53 from Oakley kept them on course only for Mick 'Doc' Colquhoun to dismantle their middle order with a three wicket spell for 17 runs
Worcester never recovered with veterans Adrian Berry, Keith Holland and the ever improving Matt Vorderman finishing off the tail leaving Colwall a target of 199 to win the match off 48 overs.
A classical knock from the ageless John Berry (61) and a controlled innings from skipper Rik Lewis (85) put the game beyond Worcester with useful contributions from David Child (30no) and Gareth Bakewell (13no) saw Colwall home to an eight wicket win and the title.
A lot of the credit for Colwall's spirit and consistency must go down to captain Rik Lewis who led the evening's celebration in the club house.
