September 6 1902
JOB Harper, a tramp, was summoned for destroying his clothes on August 31 at Pershore Workhouse. The porter at the Pershore union stated that on Sunday morning he found that the prisoner had torn up all his clothes. Defendant said his clothes were filthy and ragged and that he was ashamed to walk along the road. He was sent down for 14 days with hard labour.

PERSHORE plum growers received a letter from King George V's master of the household, Sir Derek Keppel, following receipt of a consignment of plums. The plums were sent to the King last Thursday, to mark the centenary of the discovery of the Pershore Egg Plum.

AN assurance that there was no suggestion that Pershore Cottage Hospital was to be closed, was given by Mr H A White, presenting the report of the Evesham House Committee to Wednesday's meeting of the South Worcestershire Hospital Management at the Worcester Royal Infirmary. At a meeting of the House Committee on July 9, Mr White said it had been agreed unanimously to close the hospital for a holiday period because of the staff situation and not only because of a nurse shortage.

THE one-way traffic system, operating in Evesham because of repairs to the Evesham Bridge, caused chaos on Tuesday - the second day of its operation - when motorists were stuck in long traffic queues. But the situation was easier yesterday and in a move to improve the flow, the traffic lights at the junction of Bridge Street, Port Street and Waterside were switched off.
