LOCAL HISTORY SOCIETY: The most recent meeting featured an illustrated talk by Mr Ken Hughes entitled Tea, Sauce and Custard. The talk was a cursory look at the history of three famous Birmingham companies during their formative years, as they became household names. The three companies in question were H P Sauce; Bird's Custard; and P G Tips Tea. Mr Hughes had some interesting tales to tell of the formative years of these great Birmingham companies though in the short span of time which he had allotted himself it was difficult for the speaker to give more than a brief potted history of each company. Mr Hughes was able to show some interesting slides of the premises occupied by the three famous companies in their heyday, some still bearing their original logos.

September's meeting next Wednesday will feature, as speaker, the archivist of the Local History Society, Cyril Johnson, whose fascinating and heavily illustrated talk will be entitled Then and Now - 30 years of photographing Alcester. Photographs on show will include many of those taken during the past 30 years when so much has changed in the town of Alcester during which time the Local History Society has been at the forefront of recording for posterity buildings once familiar but now, no longer with us. It should be a fascinating evening.

Meetings are at the Greig Hall at 8pm and all are welcome.
