A SWASHBUCKLING career-best innings has earned Dave Martel our final Evening News/Duncan Fearnley Cricket Sales Ltd. Cricketer of the Week award for this season.

He struck 159 out of a total of 243-7 for Hallow in a Worcestershire County League Division Six clash with Kidderminster.

However, his side had to settle for a winning draw in their last league match of the season and Martel admitted: "I would have traded half those runs for a win."

Martel, who is Hallow's captain, was originally due to bat at number four but ended up opening the batting after the regular opener arrived late.

He said: "The pace of the innings was quite good - it was quite slow to start with but built up as it went on and I was batting fairly aggressively by the end."

He batted for 126 balls and hit three sixes and 23 fours. He gave one chance to deep square-leg on 96, but the ball went for four to complete his century!

The 39-year-old is in his third season with Hallow. He previously played in Cambridgeshire before spending six years living in the United States.

He wins a £40 voucher to be spent at Duncan Fearnley Cricket Sales Ltd. at Unit 10 Sherriff Street, Worcester.
