I AM writing as a frustrated resident of Areley Kings - frustrated with the continual and ever-worsening traffic congestion through Stourport and, in particular, through High Street.
Every Saturday we are faced with the same chaos. Queues of traffic backed up beyond the river bridge, beyond the junction with Areley Lane and back onto the Dunley Road and Walshes Estate.
Why? The answer is simple. It is the illegal parking in High Street. For the last two Saturdays, as all other Saturdays, it has taken approximately 20 minutes to get from Areley Kings into High Street.
And what do we find when we get there? On both occasions we were greeted by 13 cars parked illegally in High Street leading to much frustration and annoyance for all, not to mention the general congestion caused to the remainder of the town.
When will someone do something about this? The police ignore it, the council ignores it and traffic wardens seem to have vanished into the ether!
No doubt it would be too costly to do anything about it, but is it so? A simple £20 fine would more than cover the costs of a traffic warden, or even a police constable on the beat (novel I know but we can but hope!).
Just think, all you tight-fisted moneymen. Two Saturdays, 26 fines at £20 each. Smiling moneymen and happy ratepayers.
Come on, get it sorted!!!
