Pershore Town 1,

Coventry Marconi 1

PERSHORE looked to be heading for their second Icis Midland Combination Premier Division win on Saturday but a late equa-liser spoiled their day.

Town's Simon Judge had to cry off with an injury before the match but Joe Maidment filled the gap in midfield.

Marconi were first to threaten in the early minutes when a dangerous cross by Jamie Towers was headed clear by 18-year-old full back Adam Simpson.

Marc Smith wasted a chance minutes later when, with only Barry McLean to beat, he played the ball into the Town goalkeeper's hands.

The Town took the lead in the 25th minute when Tony McLean won the ball on the edge of the six-yard box, where it dropped for fellow striker Lee Tustin to fire in an unstoppable drive.

Two minutes into the second half Cyril Dowling hit a terrific 25-yard drive only to see Marconi keeper Chris Daffern pull off a superb save.

Marconi pressed forward in search of the equaliser but Town's defence, well led by skipper Colin Fulloway, were holding well until the 67th minute.

A three-man move ended when Alan Ward's deep cross was headed home by Towers.

In the last quarter Town could, and should, have won the match but missed chances by McLean, Simpson and Chris Allen gave the visitors a share of the points.

Goals from Tustin and Tony McLean earned Nigel Russell's side a 2-0 win over previously unbeaten West Midlands Police at King George's on Tuesday night.
