A BATTLING second-half display earned a point for unbeaten Chaddesley Corbett at Blackheath Town in West Midlands League Division One South.

They started slowly against bright opposition and were only saved by an outstanding penalty stop from keeper Gareth Yarsley to deny Simon Swallow after Matt Baynton brought down Wesley Cooper.

Chaddesley took the lead against the run of play on 25 minutes as Baynton atoned for his earlier error with a perfect cross which Ian Vogel guided into the corner with his head.

However, the visitors gave away an equaliser when a well-worked free-kick caught them out on the left and Ian Attwood tapped in the resulting cross from close range.

The second half started terribly for the visitors as they conceded within two minutes through Stephen Manley who found the net from eight yards.

Chaddesley produced their best football in the search for an equaliser as chances fell to Ashley Phillips, Andy Shuck and Craig Pratt.

But they eventually secured a point with 15 minutes left when Yarsley's long kick was superbly chased down by Alex Taffe and he bravely beat keeper and defender to the ball to head in from 18 yards.

There were opportunities at both ends late on with Taffe heading against the bar, while Yarsley made an excellent double save and Baynton cleared off the line.

Man of the match was Brian Burton. Players are asked to meet at the Viaduct pub at 12.45pm for Saturday's game at Malvern Rangers.
