NOW that the incinerator proposal has been dealt with, perhaps now is the time to consider other means of environmentally friendly waste disposal.

It has been suggested before that the "multiple wastebin" is the answer, and from my experience of residence and visits to Germany I can vouch for this.

Whether you are in the street, on a railway station there, or in your own backgarden, the pattern is the same. A receptacle each for glass, paper, tins, and one for the rest.

The first three are recycled, and the other goes to the disposal area. This is a way of life for all Germans, and if you should, say on a station , put a tin in the glass bin, someone will kindly point it out.

It is a way of life which is firmly established, and is normal routine. Of course, in the first instance it costs money, but the cost benefits, to both local authorities and industry, are enormous.

Here we can take our various types of waste to the Stourport Road waste reclamation site, but not everyone can or does.

In Germany there are, of course, regional variations, but the basic principle remains the same.

It would be good if our town councils and our district council looked seriously at this and produced a plan which they could then put before the county.

We should then be pioneers instead of being, as your recent article suggested, defaulters in this field.
