THE subway at the bottom of Comberton Hill in Kidderminster was flooded yet again on August 24. Every time there is a heavy fall of rain, one or other of the under-passes is blocked by water several inches in depth.

This particular event necessitated a return up the steps and an extremely hazardous crossing of the heavily-used Comberton Hill, to access the subway on the south side.

I have already spoken to other people about this and some say they have telephoned the district council on other occasions when the subways were flooded. Seemingly, these telephone calls do not result in action.

The drainage grids are not externally blocked. They are blocked internally and no amount of sweeping with new-fangled and expensive machinery will unblock them.

The water had not cleared half an hour after the rain had ceased.

People are becoming quite cheesed-off with the diminishing levels and quality of service they are getting, despite one of the highest Council Tax charges in England.

What have we, the people of Wyre Forest, done to deserve everything that has been happening to us recently? There is simply no excuse for blocked drains when they have got men laying flower beds all day long. It seems that aesthetics command higher priority than essentials.

Britain has entered the age of litigation, litigation, litigation. I wouldn't like to be in Contract Services' shoes should someone be injured on Comberton Hill while making dangerous diversions forced on them by situations over which they and the local council have complete control and responsibility.
