THE big band sound is coming back to Kidderminster this month.
The Worcestershire Jazz Orchestra have announced a date at the town's library as part of its September schedule.
Directed by Ian Hattersley, the orchestra plays a wide variety of scores made familiar by the big bands of the past as well as a few more recent arrangements.
A mix of professional, semi-pro and amateur players, they have won and been runners-up in the Worcester Festival Open Jazz Section and are in demand across the county.
They can be seen in action on Wednesday, September 18 at Kidderminster Library at 8pm.
The orchestra's repertoire is based around big band swing music from the late 1930s to the present day, including popular arrangements by Glenn Miller, Basie, Ellington and Ted Heath and more recent work from the likes of Sammy Nestico.
Mr Hattersley has started a youth jazz orchestra in response to several requests and any interested young players who have reached grade 6 and are good at sight-reading can contact him on 01527 540616.
Tickets for the Kidderminster date are available from the library on 01562 824500.
