A KIND-HEARTED canal enthusiast is urging Droitwich people to grab their plastic bags and gloves and take part in a litter-busting clean-up.
Sue Walton, of Ladywood, is organising a litter pick along the canalside and over the hills towards Salwarpe, but needs the public's help to make the day a success.
The event, on Saturday, September 14, is tipped to be a fun day out for all the family.
After the litter pick, there will be a guided walk across the fields to the Hadley Bowling Green Inn, where people will be able to have lunch for the special price of £2.50.
"The aim of the day will be to tidy up the canal and also raise awareness and show youngsters how important it is not to drop litter," said Miss Walton.
"It is a lovely walk over the fields and a lot of people don't even know it's there, so I thought it would be a nice way to finish the day off."
Miss Walton said her mum Anne was a former Droitwich mayor, and chairwoman of the canals' trust.
"I guess my love for the canals came from her and my dad Bill," she said.
Beautiful
"We live in such a beautiful town and so many people spoil it by dropping litter. Hopefully this day will help towards tidying the canals, so when they are reopened they will keep their natural beauty."
If you would like take part in the clean up, which will begin in Vines Park at 9.30am, contact Miss Walton on 01905 458352.
