BIG-SCORING Andy Maiden and Andy Jones led Brintons to a comfortable nine-wicket success over relegated Stone in the last Division Five game of the season.

Maiden (112 not out) and Jones (68) helped the Kidderminster side home easily after Stone had totalled a useful 228-7.

Brintons, who have avoided the drop, invited the home side to bat and most of the batsmen made contributions with Adrian Blackledge (59) top scoring.

Pete Glover chipped in with a brisk 58 runs, while Ian Waldron (2-39) produced the best return for the visitors.

Having survived several dropped catches, Maiden led the visitors to victory, ably supported by Jones.

Stone's bowlers and fielder strove hard for wickets but only managed to take one in defence of their target.

Stone 228-7, Brintons 229-1.

Stone lost their Sunday friendly against Blackheath although they forced a close finish.

The villagers batted first with openers Simon Drew (66) and debutant Paul Harler (29) putting on 99 for the first wicket.

Several players chipped in and moved the total on to 202-7 at the close of the innings.

Stone's attack took wickets at regular intervals and had reduced Blackheath to 146-8.

But an unbeaten ninth-wicket partnership of 60 saw their opponents home with only nine balls to spare.

Skipper Howard Smith (3-22) and Kevin Hatton (2-29) ended with the best figures for Stone.

Stone 202-6, Blackheath 206-8.
