HEADLESS Cross Ladies kicked off their season with a 3-2 win over Southam United despite blooding six new signings in a revamped side.

The Abbey Stadium side shrugged the disappointment of losing a promotion play-off in the close season to open in style with a new-look side.

Former Redditch United Women defender Shelly Dixon was joined in central defence by Denise Markham, a new signing from Nationwide Northern Division side Wolves.

Attacking midfielder Tina Benbow has joined from West Midlands League Premier Division side Tamworth and Rob Auld has persuaded Redditch striker Mandy Ellicot to finalise her move from the club's arch rivals.

Great Wyrley midfielders Becky Watson and Teresa Boddington completed the debutants and Ellicot wasted no time in opening her account for her new club.

Goals from Alison Johnson and Jade Craddock completed the win and Cross entertain Southern Division newcomers Banbury on Sunday (ko 2pm).
