A HANDMADE tapestry rug, which has taken nearly 30 years to finish, is to now take pride of place at Coughton Court.

Owner of the stately home, Clare Throckmorton, has managed to complete the hand-stitched rug after more than 28 years between her time as a QC and raising three children.

The tapestry includes six individually sewn panels depicting flowers grown in the gardens at Coughton estate.

Mrs Throckmorton said: "The Throckmorton ladies have a long reputation for their excellent needlework, both silk embroidery and tapestry work.

"There is ample evidence of this at Coughton Court and I was keen to continue the tradition.

"Although progress has been slow, the tapestry has provided welcome relief from a stressful life - much better than tranquillisers I'm sure!

"It's hugely satisfying to finish the piece and I hope it will hang at Coughton for many centuries to come."

And Mrs Throckmorton has now undertaken her next tapestry challenge - to complete an unfinished tapestry started by her grandmother showing the former Elm Avenue at Coughton.
