THE future of Wyre Forest's council-run play areas may be under review - but Bewdley Town Football Club has scored by setting up its own.

The club, based at Ribbesford Meadows, has acquired slides, swings and trains for children to climb on from Kidderminster Hospital. Alison Lewis and children Kathryn, seven, and Jonathan, five, of Chaddesley Corbett.

It is available for use by club members and their families and is part of the club's drive to increase community links and get more people involved.

The club has about 200 members and runs seven-a-side teams for different age groups and full size youth teams up to under-17 level.

Chairman Geoff Edwards said the play equipment had been brought in - following a £100 donation to the hospital and about £150 removal costs - to be used be members' younger brothers and sisters.

He added: "We've got a large area down there and we're hoping to re-launch our Saturday morning training sessions for kids whether they play for one of our teams or not.

"On a Saturday morning we want to have families coming down with young kids and anyone will be welcome to become members and make use of our facilities."

Bewdley Town's senior team has made an unbeaten start to this season's West Midlands Division One South campaign.
