THE closure of a main Kidderminster route brought rush-hour traffic to a standstill.
The week-long closure of Franche Road, due to end tomorrow night, has coincided with the continuing roadblocks in Marlpool Lane, where sewer works are being carried out.
Traffic has been diverted along Mason Road and Habberley Road to the island junction with Habberley Lane - resulting in evening jams stretching back down the ring-road to the town centre.
Highways Partnership manager for Kidderminster, Stuart Reynolds, said the closure of Franche Road was necessary.
"A partial closure with traffic lights would have at least doubled the time the job would have taken and motorists would have been disrupted for longer," he added.
