A FINE all-round display has earned Dave Fidoe our Evening News/Duncan Fearnley Cricket Sales Ltd. Cricketer of the Week award.

The 26-year-old hit an unbeaten 92 with the bat and then took 5-66 with the ball to inspire his Martley side to a narrow 10-run victory over Malvern in the Worcestershire County League Division Two.

It was only the fourth league win of the season for Martley and they look like being relegated in their first season in the division - so Fidoe's performance was a rare crumb of comfort for them.

"We haven't performed very well this season," he admitted, "and I'm not sure that the win was too little, too late.

"We have two games left and if we were to win them both we could still stay up, but we are relying on other teams now."

But he was certainly happy with his own display against Malvern, especially with the bat.

"I haven't, generally speaking, batted too well this season, but the wicket played very well - it was very straight and true and that helped me."

His off-spin bowling then picked up five crucial wickets, although he said: "We were helped a bit by Malvern - they went for the runs all the way down the line and never thought about playing for a draw."

Fidoe, who lives in Worcester, has been playing for Martley for 12 years apart from one season with Ombersley.

He wins a £40 voucher to be spent at Duncan Fearnley Cricket Sales Ltd. at Unit 10 Sherriff Street, Worcester.
