I WRITE to voice my concern over a recent driving incident that affected myself both as a lone woman and registered childminder/foster carer.
While driving home towards Kidderminster from an outing in Pershore along the notorious A449 with five young children in the car, my vehicle had a puncture.
I managed to drive into a no parking zone opposite the Leaking Well public house.
I got the children out and sat them on a blanket under the hedgerow away from the busy road.
Luckily I do have a mobile phone and was able to call for assistance.
During the wait we were passed by two police vehicles (one of which slowed down and had a good look), but neither stopped to check we were OK or to see if we had been able to call for help.
Had I needed to find a telephone it would not have been possible without putting the children in danger, as I could not have crossed the road with them or have left them by themselves.
It would only have taken two minutes to stop and check everything was OK and that help was on its way.
So much for child safety being a priority in this country!
So please, all women out there - driving with or without children - make sure you have a mobile phone with you as you cannot always rely on the help or concern of the police force.
