PLAYER-BOSS Tim Langford grabbed a late goal to earn Stourport Swifts a draw against their Dr Martens Premier Division visitors Halesowen Town on Friday.

And the former Kidderminster and Telford striker then admitted he felt the fittest he had been for a long time - despite being 36-years-old.

Langford said: "Our fitness levels were superb allowing us to finish the stronger.

"I have played the full 90 minutes for the last two games and am looking forward to the start of the season on Saturday."

A draw was no more than the Walshes Meadow outfit deserved after finishing strongly against a Halesowen side that must be considered as one of the favourites for promotion to the Nationwide Conference.

Langford capped another impressive display with a quality goal, jinking his way past two defenders before firing home from eight yards two minutes from time following a glorious move down the right involving Tim Nicholls and Kerry Giddings.

Moments earlier, Simon Marsh and Langford had combined to set up Giddings but the former Halesowen ace was denied by the legs of substitute keeper Mark Garvey.

Paul Edwards fired wide early on for Swifts before Halesowen took control of the proceedings.

Richard Leadbeater, snapped up from Evesham United, opened the scoring from close range on 29 minutes.

The visitors would have added another six minutes into the second period had keeper Adrian Hipkins not produced a double save to deny former Hereford pair Jimmy Quiggin and Rob Elmes.

A string of substitutions slowed the game until the closing minutes when Swifts notched their deserved equaliser.
