IT'S decision time Mark II for Droitwich Lido, now the deadline has expired on the latest series of bids to run the controversial site.

Wychavon District Council now has to choose which company will take on the Lido, with a final decision due next month.

This will be the second time the council has had to select a Lido operator - it was forced to re-advertise the contract earlier on this year after the scheme with Calypso, a German-backed firm which planned to turn the Lido site into an exclusive spa, fell through in April.

The company said it required a bigger site for its proposals.

Time ran out for the latest series of bids for the controversial site last Wednesday and there is one section of town society which is keen to know the outcome.

Action group, Save Our Lido Today (SALT), was set up to save the existing Lido and members are eager to see the new proposals.

Secretary John Cox said: "We would obviously like to see the Lido's size retained and for it stay as an open air pool which is affordable to the general public.

"We would be pleased to back any bid which contains those elements.

"I think many people in the town are eager to see what bids have been put forward and we are quietly confident that there may be one which is along the lines of what we want."

Community partnerships manager Tim Deakin said:

"The council will now assess any bids it has received before choosing its partner/s.

"We will evaluate the bids during August with a view to making recommendations to the executive board in September."
