WORCESTER Triathlon Club held their annual triathlon race yesterday at the Droitwich Pool and Leisure Centre.

The event was blessed with ideal racing conditions, unlike last year when torrential rain slowed competitors on the bike course.

Held over the sprint distance of 400 metre swim, 20km bike and a 5km run.

More than 170 competitors entered the race with 143 finishers.

Star of the Worcester Triathlon Club was Simon Barringer who finished in fourth position in the open race in a time of 1.6.05 - a great effort as his main sport is sculling for the Worcester Rowing Club.

The other excellent perform-ance by a club member was Alec Bond who won the male youth section in 1.11.07.

Overall winner of the race was Chris Nicholl of Science in Sport in 1.3.24 and the ladies was Imogen Thornbur (a GB team member) in 1.6.08.

Other Worcester Tri Club competitors: Paul Wyatt-Davie the second male junior in 1.20.51; Mike Hedges 1.13.50; Mark Johnson 1.15.20; Alan Cooper 1.19.13.

The next open race will be the Worcester Aquathlon at the RNIB centre of Sunday December 1. This race consists of a 400 yard swim followed by a 5km run. For further inform-ation telephone 01905- 454276.
