A SPA student discovered his hard work had reaped success when he received a first class honours degree in Economics.

Andrew Williams (pictured, right), of Westwood Close, is celebrating following his success at Lancaster University Management School, where he graduated with a BSc (Hons).

His degree was confirmed at a colourful ceremony last month by the university's chancellor, HRH Princess Alexandra.

The 20-year-old has now secured a place with the accountancy firm Deloitte and Touche, based in Birmingham, on its graduate chartered accountancy scheme.

Andrew, a star pupil throughout his education, previously studied at Droitwich Spa High School and Sixth Form Centre, in Briar Mill.

There he failed to disappoint and passed his A-levels with flying colours, getting A grades in maths, economics, history and general studies.

Andrew said he was really pleased at his success, adding: "I really enjoyed my three years at university.

"My second year was the best year of my life as I got to study international economics and finance in Boston, USA.

"University was brilliant, I really made the most of the whole experience."

The dean of the management school, professor Sue Cox, said: "We are delighted with Andrew's result.

"This is an excellent performance and a reward for his hard work.

"The skills he has developed will be very much in demand as he progresses through his career."
