WORCESTER City Council's fun-filled Summer in the City programme is now in its third week and there is a long list of activities on offer.

Highlights include storytelling, theatre, workshops, wildlife walks, competitions, clowns, music and trips to well-known attractions.

At the Museum of Local Life, in Friar Street, youngsters can help make an Iron Age fort, learn about the Vikings through activities such as dressing up in Viking armour, or step back in time to the Victorian age.

They can also follow the fortunes of a Worcester family at the turn of the century through storytelling sessions, due to be held on Wednesday, August 28.

At the City Museum and Art Gallery, Foregate Street, there are exhibitions exploring industry in Worcester from Roman times to the last century, as well as the works of artist Vered Lahav, which explore childhood, the family and personal identity, and 20th century landscapes and portraits.

The Bands in the Park programme also continues, with a recital by Worcester Concert Brass, in Gheluvelt Park, Barbourne, on Sunday, August 18, at 2.30pm.

"Switch off the TV, shut down the computer and join in the summer fun at one of the many exciting activities happening across the city," said Alan Stuttard, head of cultural services at Worcester City Council.

Leaflets are available at city libraries, at the sports centres in Perdiswell, Nunnery Wood and St John's, at Worcester Swimming Pool and at Huntingdon Hall.
