PEOPLE living in Worcestershire have been thanked for their support for the Queen's Royal Hussars by the regiment's commanding officer.

Lieutenant Colonel David Swann said the 300-year association between Worcestershire and the Hussars was still extremely strong and praised all those who kept in touch with the regiment to offer support.

He added that the Christmas cards sent by people living in Worcestershire, while the tank regiment was on a six-month tour in Kosovo, had helped keep morale high while the regiment was away from home during the festive season.

"We like to think there are very strong links between the Queen's Royal Hussars and Worcestershire," he said.

"Like everyone else in the regiment, those who come from the county are always keen to know what is happening at home, so are always very grateful for all the support they get, especially when they are away from family and friends.

"It's good to know that we are getting such strong support from home."

Lt Col Swann added that anyone who joined the Queen's Royal was not leaving their family but gaining another one.

Those who joined the regiment had to learn very quickly to handle responsibility, but he promised anyone who joined the Hussars the chance of a highly rewarding career.

"It need not be a job for five years, it can be a 22-year career," he said.

"Those who join the military will learn very quickly it comes with many responsibilities, but it's very rewarding and there are always plenty of adventure activities and sports to do in spare time.

"We really are a close-knit family and one which will remain with you after leaving the Hussars.

"When you live and work with people, bonds are stronger than if you are doing a 9-5 job. This will stand you in good stead for the rest of your life. It could result, 20 or 30 years down the line, with people going into business with or working for someone from the regiment."
