GEORGE Cowley says (You Say, July 29) that if public sector workers bring down the Government by a series of strikes they will be kicking themselves in the teeth.

I think they will be doing the country a great service, for it is high time this government was brought down.

Just what have they achieved in five years? The inexorable march to the left has gone on and on without any opposition.

They have, however, managed to pull the wool over our eyes by means of their now enormous media department led by Alistair Campbell.

Has the NHS improved? Has transport? Has law and order? Has anything? Have not steps been taken to introduce the police state - identity cards are not far away, and 10 police forces have now to report to Ministers.

Have not unannounced steps been taken to break up the country into regions as required by the EU before we become part of a federal state of europe?

The problem is who could take over should the government fall.

Have we seen any real opposition from the Conservatives? How often do we hear them speak? Silence is golden seem to be their watchword.
