WHILE it is encouraging to read the recent letters showing an interest in the future of Pitchcroft, the writers are, I am afraid, two years too late.
The racetrack and other bits were leased to "Worcester Racecourse Ltd" for 99 years in the year 2000.
The proposal to do so was advertised by the city council. At that time, The River Sports Association objected to the proposed lease.
With a member of the Dragon Boat Club, I attended the council meeting at which the issue was discussed. If I remember correctly, there were only two other letters objecting.
Considering the amount of money the city was offered for the lease, it was hardly surprising the councillors agreed to the proposal.
Three objections from a city with a population of 95,000 is hardly an overwhelming protest.
May I suggest that in future the good citizens of Worcester remain vigilant and protest before the decisions have been made, rather than afterwards.
A ROBERTS, Worcester.
