THE show will go on, say members of a city amateur dramatic society that was having trouble finding male dancers for the outrageous musical comedy La Cage Aux Folles.

Worcester Operatic and Dramatic Society was baffled by the poor turnout at auditions for the musical, to be staged at the Malvern Theatres in October.

They thought the theme of the production was perhaps putting many men off. The show is based around antics at a Paris theatre, where half of the dancing troupe are women and the other half are men dressed as women.

However, now the society is only short of three male dancers and rehearsals are well under way.

"We are still looking for three dancers. We've tried Worcester, Birmingham and a national stage magazine. We have had some interest, but nothing positive yet," said the production's assistant, director Chris Hooper.

"But there is no danger of cancelling the show now. We will keep searching until we get the dancers."

Mike Capri, the professional choreographing the show, said it was a great opportunity for any aspiring male dancer. He has previously appeared in the West End production of La Cage Aux Folles and recently toured in the show with Julie Goodyear, Coronation Street's Bet Lynch.

"It's a very challenging production, a very big show with lots of lavish costumes and extravagant dance numbers. The costumes are the same as the ones they used in the West End," said Mr Hooper.

The show is being staged at Malvern from Tuesday, October 15, to Saturday, October 19 and anyone interested in joining the dance troupe should contact Mr Hooper on 07736 694450.

"They don't have to worry about shaving their legs or anything like that," he said.

"We've got special tights that cover completely."
