Pupils from Christopher Whitehead Language College in Worcester were presented with certificates by veteran Worcestershire batsman Graeme Hick at a special party to mark the 30th birthday of Prince Charles's charity the Prince's Trust.

The youngsters got their awards for completing the xl course, aimed at children deemed to be at risk of underachieving, likely to truant or be expelled. Headteacher Neil Morris said: "The Prince's Trust provides a curriculum for children who have been disadvantaged. They haven't only taken this opportunity but achieved excellence."

Also among the guests at the Worcestershire cricket ground event were business people who had been helped by the trust over the past three decades.

They included Sarah Milnes, who was the first person in Worcestershire to receive help from the trust when she established her bridal shop Cathedral Belles 15 years ago, and Jan Robertson, who set up Mojo photography in Worcester.

Ms Robertson said: "The Prince's Trust is a really great charity. So many charities give money, but the trust offers the support to help people develop their businesses and builds people's self-esteem."
