IN-CONTROL Bewdley threw away a high-flying Worcestershire Saturday League Division Two encounter with Eastnor at the last minute and lost by 21 runs.

With 10 overs to go and two established batsmen at the crease, Bewdley needed only 36 runs with six wickets to spare.

But all six went in as many overs for the addition of just 14 runs as Eastnor leapt above Stourport to second in the table.

Batting first, the home side made a brisk start but at 40-2 in the ninth over their batsmen had to consolidate.

Shahid (43) joined Arshad (42) in a 63-run fourth-wicket stand but attempts to accelerate the score brought about a collapse through the spin of Mark Hudson (3-17).

A crucial stand of 23 for the last wicket set a 181 target with Jason Taylor bowling tightly for 4-31 and Mark Bennett taking 2-30.

Captain Simon Smith fell in the third over but Ben Jones (39) and Paul Beard (40) made the game's best stand of 79.

Beard fell with the score on 97 but replacement Paul Edwards (24) was going well until given lbw on 123 when he was hit on the thigh.

At 145-4, Bennett was narrowly run out for 17 runs and it was then downhill quickly for the visitors.

Eastnor 180, Bewdley 159.

It was a different story for Bewdley seconds who romped to a 10-wicket home victory with 45 overs to spare.

Eastnor started badly with Cyril Ramsey taking two catches to set them back at 4-2.

D Entwistle (76) was the only batsman to resist before being eighth out with the score on 116.

Mark Guest (4-45) and Mike Harris (4-28) turned in their best bowling performances of the season.

Peter Mauger (60 not out) and captain David Jones (50 not out) batted so aggressively they nearly had the match won by the interval.

Eastnor 121, Bewdley 2nds 122-0.

R Crane took 4-19 but Feckenham denied Bewdley Cavaliers outright victory in the Third Teams Double League.

Bewdley Cavaliers 155, Feckenham 139-9.
