STUDLEY'S top of the table win over Walmley at the weekend took them to the summit of the Birmingham League Division Two East and the highest position in the club's history.

The omens are good because the last time Studley topped the table they won the Warwickshire League to earn promotion to the Birmingham League back in 1998.

Mark Lewis' side had to fight for it against the league leaders on an unpredictable track.

After bowling out the table toppers for just 63 and restricting their top scorer to 14, Studley lost five wickets before eventually passing the low score.

After a slow start, Studley have steadily climbed the table on the back of an impressive run of seven wins in eight matches.

And with the tightest of finishes in prospect, Lewis' side are in the driving seat by just one point over a Water Orton side who beat Four Oaks Saints at the weekend.

Kings Heath were the only club who could have overhauled Studley at the top but slipped to a timely losing draw to Old Edwardians to stay third, eight points behind the leaders.

But with only ten points separating the top four sides, Studley's lead looks likely to be shortlived as they are without a game on Saturday.

The Washford Fields side were supposed to play the now defunct Solihull Municipal and will pick up no points.

Studley return to league action at home to mid-table Blossomfield a week on Saturday.
