HEADLESS Cross residents have laid out a concept of how they want their area to develop.

The findings of a far-reaching planning exercise were recently published in which residents and children were asked what they want done with green areas, community facilities and the road network.

Though some of the ideas were simple like the need for more flowers and hedge trimming, others included providing traffic calming measures and more parking.

People thought the busy Evesham Road needed a pedestrian crossing and measures to stop cars parking on pavements while Birchfield Road needed a school patrol.

It was noted that play areas were virtually absent in Headless Cross. Other people suggested holding events on Headless Cross Green or even installing a sculpture on it.

Headless Cross Councillor Pat Wilson said the initiative had grown out of the campaign to save Headless Cross Green from housing development two years ago.

The planning exercise was organised through Headless Cross neighbourhood group with the help of Redditch Council.

The next step will be to prioritise the ideas and possibly set up a working party to plant and maintain flower beds. The ideas will then be used to seek partners and funding to carry out the work.

Redditch Council is running more events across town this summer to find out what residents want in other neighbourhoods.

Then later this year a Community Strategy "visioning document" will be drawn up using the consultation.
