I WAS surprised and dismayed to read of the suggestion that a proposed phone mast should be put in Morton Stanley Park because 'there are no houses'.

I understood from comments at the neighbourhood group meeting that the concern, which I share, was for children playing on Walkwood field and Vaynor playground.

Every week, especially in the football season, many children are in the park for far longer than they are in the school playground, as well as all the people who walk in the park for up to two hours at a time.

If these masts pose a threat to health, they should be banned, full stop.

And if that means less mobile phones, so be it.
