A HEREFORD thief will not be making it to the registrar's office on time after a judge refused her plea for bail.

Emma Davies, aged 25, wanted the court to free her to care for her six-year-old son and marry her fianc on Thursday, August 1.

But Judge Gabriel Hutton said she had already let the court down too many times by failing to attend for hearings when on bail.

At Gloucester Crown Court yesterday, Judge Hutton remanded Davies, of Hinton Crescent, Hereford, in custody for an up-to-date pre-sentence report to be prepared on her.

Davies, who admitted breaching previous probation and drug treatment orders imposed for offences of theft and burglary, was arrested in Hereford early yesterday on a warrant issued by Judge Hutton when she failed to appear on Monday.

Pleading from the dock for one more chance, Miss Davies told the court that in recent weeks, she had managed to become drug-free.

She had missed her last date in court because of illness, she said.

"I am due to get married on August 1. I have a new partner who I have known for 10 years and he lives with me and my mother. He is against drugs and has helped me get clean," she said.

"We have already paid for our wedding at Hereford Register office on August 1."

She also pleaded to be allowed to look after her son, who, she said, "didn't ask to be born".

"Being remanded in custody is going to destroy everything I have worked for over the past few weeks. I ask you please to let me put things right for my son, who deserves to have me."

But Judge Hutton was unmoved.

"I have heard all you have got to say but you have failed to take opportunities too many times," he said.

"Again and again you have been bailed to attend court or to attend appointments and you have failed. I am not going to risk another failure."

Davies - who admitted breaching a 12-month drug treatment and testing order and a two-year community rehabilitation order imposed by Judge Hutton on April 25 for three burglaries, six thefts and two deception offences - was in tears as she was taken down to the cells.
