DEFENSIVE Brockhampton frustrated Bewdley in Worcestershire League Division Two as the in-form Wyre Forest side had to be content with a losing draw.

Chasing a 211-run target, Bewdley lost too many wickets while trying to force the pace.

But even when eight had fallen, relegation-threatened Brockhampton kept eight fielders on the boundary.

The town side had to recover from a poor start as Belbroughton took the score into three figures with the loss of just one wicket.

G Parker (50) and J Walker (38) were the inspirations before the former fell to the spin of Craig Allen (4-69).

With the score at 137-2, Bewdley's spinners hit back and without Cook's 30 not out the visitors would not have beaten the 200-mark.

In reply, Brockhampton used defensive field placings almost immediately and persisted with the tactic despite picking up wickets.

Ben Jones (28) struggled to pierce the field and it was not until he was dismissed in the 30th over at 76-4 that Bewdley's innings gathered pace.

A brisk half-century partnership followed from Simon Mauger (23) and Paul Beard (36) but Bewdley ended 35 runs short with just one wicket left.

Brockhampton 210-8, Bewdley 175-9.

Bewdley seconds wrapped up a convincing 24-point victory with 21 overs to spare, winning by 129 runs.

Pete Mauger and captain David Jones launched their innings with a 135-run opening partnership when the former played the ball onto his wicket for 49 runs.

Jones followed for 75 but Steve Brown (65) raced to his half-century before David Mills completed a hat-trick of run-outs with his own dismissal for 39.

Lawson (94) gave the only resistance for the home team with Mark Guest (3-32) the pick of the bowlers.

Jones cleared out the later batsmen with 3-26 and wicket-keeper Cyril Ramsay excelled with three catches and a stumping.

Bewdley 2nds 275-6, Brockhampton 146.

Captain Dave Cowdrey hit the winning runs for Bewdley Cavaliers with the last man at the other end.

Man-of-the match against Belbroughton was Rob Crane who took 4-28 to restrict the home side to 160 and then scored 57 runs.

Richard Golden batted well for Bewdley and Andy Stannard (3-29) impressed with the ball, while Price took a hat-trick for Belbroughton.

Belbroughton 160,

Bewdley Cavaliers 161-9.
